PIA Agents Advocate at the Wisconsin State Capitol
On March 8th, PIA’s Board of Directors, the PIA Legislative Committee, and other PIA member agents gathered in Madison, Wisconsin to advocate on issues important to independent agents and Wisconsin small businesses.
The group gathered at the Park Hotel for lunch and a legislative briefing, before walking across the street to the Wisconsin State Capitol for meetings with their elected leaders. Each group of attendees met with various elected officials throughout the afternoon and discussed several issues of importance including:
- Repealing the personal property tax and providing relief to small businesses in the state
- Increasing talent attraction initiatives and fully funding Wisconsin’s Youth Apprenticeship program to help bolster Wisconsin’s workforce
- Protecting consumers from redundant insurance being sold by unlicensed personnel at self-storage facilities
- Adding ½ credit of financial literacy education to high school’s graduation requirements. This would prepare Wisconsin students to be financially responsible adults and introduce them to the concept of insurance.
In addition to a successful day in Madison, PIAW leaders will soon travel to Washington D.C. to visit with federal lawmakers on important policy priorities in May – Stay tuned for updates!
