Getting to Know Shannon
How did you get into the insurance industry?
After graduating from St. Norbert College, I found myself uncertain about the direction I wanted to take in my career. A friend of mine, who was working at IDS Insurance selling insurance over the phone, suggested I join her. At the time, the personal lines company was just getting off the ground, and I thought it would be a great way to gain experience while I figured out my next steps. It didn’t take long, and the insurance industry had me hooked. IDS quickly provided me with exceptional opportunities to grow professionally. Now, with over 30 years in the industry, I’m deeply grateful that my career journey led me to insurance.
What is your favorite part of working in insurance?
Three things immediately come to mind when I think about what I appreciate most about the insurance industry. First, the diversity it offers. From sales to claims and everything in between, insurance provides opportunities for every skill set and interest. Second, the industry’s commitment to continuous learning. As the industry evolves, so does the need for ongoing education, awareness, and advocacy. This commitment keeps us at the forefront of change and ensures we’re always adapting to new challenges. Finally, it’s the people. Even though we may compete, we share a common goal and often collaborate to strengthen the industry as a whole. My time in insurance has allowed me to form lifelong relationships that I truly value.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My husband, Tracy, and I have a place in Door County, and we love the diversity of the area, spending as much time there as we can. Whether it's hiking, visiting the wineries, relaxing by the beaches, enjoying campfires, kayaking, or simply embracing the changes each season brings, there's always something new to enjoy. Door County truly is our happy place.
