PIA of Wisconsin is proud to recognize two strong supporters of the independent insurance industry with our 2024 Legislative Excellence Award: Representative Alex Dallman (R–Green Lake) and Senator Rob Stafsholt (R–New Richmond).

Each year, this award honors one member of the State Senate and one from the Assembly who has shown outstanding leadership on legislative priorities important to independent agents, the insurance industry and small businesses. This year’s recipients showed a strong commitment to promoting financial literacy education and advancing initiatives to provide clarity in insurance law.

Representative Alex Dallman

Representative Alex Dallman serves Assembly District 39 and resides in Green Lake, WI. After serving in various political roles, Rep. Dallman was elected to the State Assembly and took office in 2021.  Since that time, he has served on several committees and continues to serve on the Joint Finance Committee that crafts the state’s biennial budget. Representative Dallman played the key role in bringing 2023 Wisconsin Act 60 to the governor’s desk. As the bill’s author, he championed its passage and worked to ensure the legislation addressed essential topics like credit, debt, money management, and insurance. PIA continues to support increasing financial literacy education, and Rep. Dallman’s leadership has helped secure a stronger foundation for Wisconsin students as they prepare to manage their futures responsibly.

Senator Rob Stafsholt

Senator Rob Stafsholt serves Senate District 10 and is based in New Richmond, WI. In addition to his role as Senator, he also has held and continues to hold various roles in the business community, including running his own companies. During the 2023–2024 legislative session, Senator Stafsholt co-authored 2023 Wisconsin Act 60, a significant step forward in improving financial literacy education in our state. The new law requires that high school students earn at least one-half credit in personal financial literacy before graduation. He also authored 2023 Senate Bill 386, which aimed to clarify insurance requirements for peer-to-peer car sharing programs—an emerging space that calls for greater regulatory clarity. Although the bill was ultimately vetoed, PIA recognizes Senator Stafsholt’s continued efforts for clarifying insurance policy as it relates to new industries.

“Senator Stafsholt and Representative Dallman have each demonstrated a clear commitment to supporting independent insurance agents and strengthening Wisconsin’s insurance landscape,” said Jon Strom, PIA President. “Their leadership on key issues—like financial literacy education and clarity in insurance policy—makes a real difference for our industry and the communities we serve. We are proud to honor them with PIA’s 2024 Legislative Excellence Award.”

PIA is grateful for the dedication of these legislators and their efforts to help keep Wisconsin a strong and thriving place for independent insurance agents to do business!
